Public Awareness of Invasive Species in Lake Vermilion Area

Description

The Sportsmen's club of Lake Vermillion 1. Invasive Species Restaurant Placemats – 3000 printed & distributed free to ten restaurants in & around Tower & Cook, MN. Well accepted and most restaurants were out-of-stock by end of June. Will print more in 2010. One placemat enclosed. 2. Newspaper ads placed in three local papers in Tower & Cook, MN. Ads placed in conjunction with major summer holidays and opening of fishing. DNR SAH theme used in all cases with a header emphasizing Lake Vermilion. Two typical ads enclosed as used in all three papers.. Impact on newspaper audience is largely unknown. 3. Billboard Rental on Highway 53 in Virginia, MN arranged by Wildlife Forever. Standard DNR SAH theme posted. Unfortunately, the billboard was not well positioned for good viewing and our poll of boat owners at our boat inspections found very few people being able to identify the sign. Ideal billboards in this area are very difficult to obtain. 4. Gas Pump Toppers to display SAH ads - Gas Pump advertising proved to be extremely difficult to arrange. Only one company was found that handled these advertising services. They had no contracts with any local service stations and their prices were far too high in any case.
