Farm Island & Jones Farm Invasive

Several years ago, Buckthorn was noted along the Red Top Trail (part of the Northwoods ATV trail). What started as a minimal plant establishment has spread and become a monoculture of Buckthorn stems. The area forester has noted that this invasive is outcompeting native vegetation and threatens to become the dominant understory, preventing native seedlings and plants from remaining in the ecosystem. The goal of the project is to remove buckthorn using chemical and mechanical means, allowing native vegetation to reestablish and improving habitat for wildlife.
