Description


Balsam fir is a common tree in northern coniferous forests. Young fir can grow under the shade of other trees such as paper birch (Betula papyrifera) or trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides). It prefers a cool, acidic soil. Its soft needles are fragrant and deep green.
