Canada wild rye is native to open habitats such as prairies, streambanks, and lakeshores. Now, it is widely planted in grass or prairie mixtures because it establishes easily and grows fast---useful "nurse" plant while others take a few more years to establish. Attractive, nodding, seed heads with long, curving bristles.
