Prairie Bird Foot VioletViola palmata var. pedatifida

  Recommended Planting Range

  (previously: Viola pedatifida)

Prairie bird-foot violet is a true prairie species---not to be confused with eastern violets that also have finely divided leaves. It grows in mesic or dry conditions, most often on sandy or gravelly soil where it is not overshadowed by taller plants. Plants grow more-or-less separately, as opposed to forming colonies.
